Refund and Cancellation Policy
The Cooperative Memorial Society (CMS) is a member-owned, non-profit cooperative. Our memberships, educational resources, workshops, and services are designed to remain affordable and accessible. All revenue directly supports our mission of helping Albertans make informed end-of-life planning decisions and access negotiated funeral pricing through participating funeral providers.
For this reason, all purchases are considered final, subject to the provisions below and any rights provided under applicable consumer protection legislation.
Lifetime Memberships
A CMS membership is:
Duplicate Memberships
If a duplicate membership is purchased in error (for example, because an individual is already a CMS member or receives one as a gift), CMS may, at its discretion:
Ducks in a Row Workbook (Printed & Digital)
The Ducks in a Row workbook is available in both printed and digital (PDF) formats.
Printed WorkbooksPrinted workbooks are non-refundable once they have been shipped.
If a workbook arrives damaged or incorrect, please contact CMS within 14 days of delivery. We will arrange for a replacement where appropriate.
Digital (PDF) Workbooks
Because digital products are delivered immediately and cannot be returned, all PDF workbook purchases are final and non-refundable.
Workshops
Workshop registrations help cover venue costs, instructor fees, materials, and administrative expenses.
Workshop registration may be purchased together with a Ducks in a Row workbook for convenience. The combined purchase price reflects the cost of each item and is not a discounted package.
If a registrant is unable to attend:
Registrations may be transferred to another individual before the workshop by contacting CMS.
If CMS cancels a workshop, registrants will receive a full refund or may choose to transfer their registration to a future workshop, where available.
Record Fees
A record fee is payable when a participating funeral provider submits the required documentation to CMS to confirm that funeral services have been provided under a CMS membership agreement.
In most cases, the participating funeral provider collects this fee from the family at the time of service and then remits it to CMS.
Once the record has been processed, the fee is non-refundable.
Payment Processing
Refunds approved under this policy will normally be issued using the original method of payment.
Any non-recoverable credit card or payment processing fees incurred by CMS may be deducted from the refund where permitted by law.
