Community and Professional Resources

CMS builds relationships with community organizations, educational collaborators, and selected professionals to improve access to planning information and supports for members. These listings are provided for information only and are intended to help members learn about services that may be relevant to planning, end-of-life decision-making, and related support needs. Professional services are optional and may involve fees set by the provider. CMS does not guarantee outcomes or pricing, and member information is never shared without proper authorization.

Community Networks and Organizations

Seniors Resource Council of Alberta (SRCA)
The Seniors Resource Council of Alberta (SRCA) is a nonprofit organization that shares information about programs, services, and resources intended to support older adults in Alberta.

The Cooperative Memorial Society (CMS) is a participating member of SRCA. Through this connection, CMS stays informed about issues, resources, and practices that may be relevant to older adults and their families, particularly in areas related to planning, decision-making, and access to support.

This relationship helps CMS strengthen its educational role and remain connected to a broader network of organizations serving seniors across the province. It also supports our efforts to provide members with helpful information about services and resources that may complement CMS’s own programs.

For CMS members, the value of this connection is increased awareness of relevant resources, stronger community connections, and access to information shaped by ongoing collaboration with other seniors-serving organizations.

Seniors Service Providers Interagency (SSPI)
The Cooperative Memorial Society (CMS) participates in the Seniors Service Providers Interagency (SSPI), a network of organizations serving older adults in the Red Deer region.

Through this connection, CMS stays informed about local services, community initiatives, and issues affecting seniors and their families. It also helps us strengthen community relationships and contribute to collaborative education and outreach opportunities.

For CMS members and the broader community, this involvement supports greater awareness of relevant local resources and helps CMS share information about affordable planning and funeral options.
Education Collaborators
Mount Royal University Social Work Program
The Cooperative Memorial Society (CMS) partners with the Mount Royal University Social Work Program by offering practicum placements for fourth-year social work students.

This relationship allows CMS to support student learning while benefiting from fresh perspectives, current research, and community-informed project work. Practicum students contribute to initiatives that strengthen CMS resources, support community education, and advance our work in end-of-life planning.

For CMS members and the broader community, this partnership helps expand CMS’s capacity to develop thoughtful, practical resources informed by both social work practice and community experience.

Laura Silver is a Calgary-based Certified Death Doula who provides non-medical emotional and practical support to individuals and families during the end-of-life journey. She was also a featured speaker at the Cooperative Memorial Society’s 2024 AGM.
CMS includes information about services such as death doulas as part of its efforts to raise awareness of resources that may complement end-of-life planning. For CMS members and the broader community, this connection helps increase awareness of supports that may be helpful during serious illness, palliative care, hospice care, or advance planning.

The Cooperative Memorial Society (CMS) works with Calgary Co-op, a member-owned retail co-operative serving Calgary and surrounding communities. Calgary Co-op has served the region since 1956 and operates across Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, High River, Okotoks, and Strathmore.

Through this relationship, CMS has received practical community support such as access to meeting space, food for selected events, and assistance distributing CMS brochures through Calgary Co-op retail locations. This connection helps CMS strengthen community outreach and build awareness of its services in ways that reflect co-operative values and local collaboration.
